Multi-state engineer registration may be supported by one Professional Indemnity policy, but only if it satisfies each jurisdiction’s requirements.
One Professional Indemnity policy may support engineers working across several Australian states and territories, particularly where the same engineering business employs the registered practitioners.
However, the policy still needs to be checked for:
- insured entities and individuals
- professional services covered
- territorial and jurisdictional limits
- required limits of indemnity
- any statutory minimums
- whether employer-provided cover is acceptable
- evidence required by the regulator
Some schemes focus on whether the engineer is adequately insured, while others prescribe more specific evidence or conditions.
A policy that is suitable for one registration regime should therefore not automatically be assumed to satisfy another.
Where an engineering business operates nationally, it is usually preferable to review the PI policy and registration requirements together so gaps are identified before applications or renewals are lodged.
