NT engineer registration for certifying engineers is administered through the Building Practitioners Board.
Relevant certifying engineer categories include:
- structural
- mechanical
- hydraulic
These roles relate to certifying specified building design or construction work within the NT building regulatory system.
Professional Indemnity Insurance is a registration requirement. The current minimum is $1 million for the relevant certifying engineer categories.
Evidence is generally provided by a certificate of currency showing the insured party, insured amount, engineering/certification services, insurer, policy number and period of insurance.
Where an engineer relies on an employer’s PI policy, the employer must also satisfy the applicable NT registration requirements and the engineer’s registration may be restricted to work performed on the employer’s behalf.
Engineering firms should therefore check both the individual’s registration and the entity’s insurance/registration position before undertaking certifying work in the Northern Territory.
